Willen Lake, Milton Keynes’ most popular watersports and activity park are pleased to announce the opening of their brand-new £5 million Watersports Centre. From Saturday 26 June 2021, you’ll be able to visit this purpose-built home for all their watersport activities.
This impressive new building situated on the edge of the lake is where you’ll now need to head if you’re checking into one of their watersport sessions, taking part in wakeboarding, want to hire a pedalo, launch your own craft or have booked tickets for Aqua Parcs.
The building itself has modern changing rooms and additional public toilets. It is fully accessible, with level access, lifts, accessible toilets and baby change facilities. They have also included a full Changing Places facility, which will accommodate people with profound learning or physical disabilities.
Next to the Watersports Centre you’ll also find the new state of the art café. Spanning over two floors this new family friendly café will be operated by Benugo and will give stunning views across the lake from both its terrace and balcony areas and will allow for the opportunity to dine alfresco. The café is due to open in the summer.
Part of the improvement works at Willen Lake also include a large extension to the already popular play area. The new extended play area has been designed with different age ranges and needs in mind. The larger play area is suitable for slightly older children and will have a wide range of equipment. There is also an area suitable for younger children and those with additional needs that will be situated close to the new watersports centre. This area has been designed to allow for pushchairs and wheelchairs to easily access the play equipment. It will also have a wheelchair accessible roundabout, a basket swing and extra wide slides so that there’s something for everyone to enjoy. The play area will be completed in time for the school summer holidays.
The improvements at Willen Lake are entirely funded by The Parks Trust, the independent charity that cares for the greenspace in Milton Keynes. The income generated from activities and car parking at Willen Lake contributes to this.
